Damon McMahon\u2019s latest seems a little less improv than his debut <em>D.I.A.,<\/em> and a tad more \u201cpoppy\u201d and structured. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6pNQArLbQXQ\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cBaba Yaga\u201d <\/a>starts off the album with some beautiful meander and almost unintelligible lyrics (English, yeah, but the phrasing is odd). But whenever he sings the refrain, \u201cYou know that I, I lie,\u201d each time more soaring than the last, the goosebumps start to pop up. Same with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=leknIRxgffo\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSwim Up Behind Me,\u201d<\/a> the lyrics are always in English but are treated as another instrument, twisted and tangled and sounding unconventional. \u201cGood Bad Dreams\u201d sounds like a late \u201960s Stones-on-mescaline trip, <em>Satanic Majesties-<\/em>style and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=f7rHhq7DVec\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cNot A Slave\u201d<\/a> sounds a little Eastern, like something you\u2019d hear coming from the closed tent of a night-time bazaar. The whole listen is completely ethereal and a tad spooky, demanding repeated listens to peel back its many layers. Oh yeah, if you buy the CD version of <em>Donkey Jaw<\/em>, you get two exclusive bonus tracks, \u201cGem Head,\u201d a shimmering jungle-beat jangly \u201960s trip-out and the 10+ minute freakout \u201cTomorrow Never Knows\u201d that sounds like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nine Inch Nails<\/a> meets <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/23+Skidoo\" target=\"_blank\">23 Skidoo<\/a>. Essential, if ya know what\u2019s good for ya!
