{"id":3461,"date":"2011-12-20T10:09:26","date_gmt":"2011-12-20T16:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/?p=3461"},"modified":"2011-12-20T10:09:26","modified_gmt":"2011-12-20T16:09:26","slug":"danielle-duval-of-the-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ckuw.ca\/stylus\/2011\/12\/20\/danielle-duval-of-the-valley\/","title":{"rendered":"Danielle Duval \u2013 Of the Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3462\" href=\"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/2011\/12\/20\/danielle-duval-%e2%80%93-of-the-valley\/danielle_duval_of_the_valley\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3462\" title=\"danielle_duval_of_the_valley\" src=\"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/danielle_duval_of_the_valley-300x279.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"279\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span id=\"internal-source-marker_0.8046326108742505\">Maybe it\u2019s the title, or maybe it\u2019s the controlled push of <a href=\"http:\/\/radio3.cbc.ca\/#\/bands\/Danielle-Duval\/videos\/Danielle-Duval---Imposter\" target=\"_blank\">Danielle Duval<\/a>\u2019s voice, but every time I listen to <em>Of the Valley<\/em>, my first thought is that it would probably fair best as the soundtrack to some \u201990s high school drama cult-classic flick. <!--more-->\u201cSet in the heat of Beverly Hills, a group of friends try to find themselves&#8230; yadayadayada.\u201d \u201cControl\u201d would start up as the theatre darkens, and a sequence of pre-school morning-routine acts begins. \u201cIt\u2019s Obvious\u201d seems so fitting for any \u2018busted behind the bleachers\u2019 scene. (Re: \u201cIt\u2019s obvious we have a crush \/ We made a fuss the both of us\u201d and \u201cWe stayed up late \/ Made all the noise the neighbours hate\u201d) \u201cDay Becomes Night,\u201d which opens with a quick sec of low-fi fuzz and blasts into fast-paced strums, is the angsty prom night conclusion. That isn\u2019t meant as a criticism either \u2013 that\u2019s actually what makes this album so likable, and rationalizes the numerous accounts of in-car dance attacks that has occurred since I first listening to this one. Anywayz, by the sounds on <em>Of the Valley<\/em>, Danielle Duval is the kind of chick you\u2019d want to be friends with. She\u2019s tough, she rocks out (yes, verb) on the guitar, and yet she\u2019s not so x-core that you\u2019re scared she\u2019d beat you up. <em>Of the Valley<\/em> is enjoyable femme rock; a contemporary twist on the classic stuff of catchy melodies. A couple of the tracks off this album are extremely infectious, and have definitely been blasted through my stereo more than once.
