{"id":4047,"date":"2012-04-24T09:40:17","date_gmt":"2012-04-24T15:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/?p=4047"},"modified":"2012-04-24T09:40:17","modified_gmt":"2012-04-24T15:40:17","slug":"pujol-nasty-brutish-and-short","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ckuw.ca\/stylus\/2012\/04\/24\/pujol-nasty-brutish-and-short\/","title":{"rendered":"Pujol &#8211; Nasty, Brutish, And Short"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span id=\"internal-source-marker_0.9014364450704306\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4048\" href=\"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/2012\/04\/24\/pujol-nasty-brutish-and-short\/pujol_nasty_brutish_short\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4048\" title=\"pujol_nasty_brutish_short\" src=\"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/pujol_nasty_brutish_short.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Daniel Pujol is a Nashville musician with a fine punk spirit, pursuing a masters in global affairs through the University of Denver. <!--more-->He often collaborates with his girlfriend, Alexa Sullivant, on various writing and illustrative projects.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pujoldotcom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pujol\u2019s<\/a> latest release (his tenth in two years), <em>Nasty, Brutish, and Short<\/em>, follows acclaimed singles, full lengths, and EPs, on labels <a href=\"http:\/\/thirdmanrecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thirdman<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.turbotimerecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Turbo Time<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/infinitycat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Infinity Cat<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/evilweevil.bigcartel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Evil Weevil<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/jefferydragrecords.bandcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jeffrey Drag<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.velocityofsound.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Velocity of Sound<\/a>. With a title that couldn&#8217;t be more fitting, he describes the life of mankind in its rawest form. Pujol uses uncomplicated, repetitive &#8217;60s surf-psych and british rock influences throughout the record, with crunchy and crispy guitar chords. The EP begins with a psych warp intro on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9Uo2u1U6DiE\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cMayday,\u201d<\/a> setting an upbeat rock anthem to head bang to. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WSyYQOhE2ZQ\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cScully,\u201d<\/a> shows a softer side of Pujol that manages to embody the same rock and roll vibe with a slower pace. On <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n6RXgh3AHlE\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Tiny Gods (Singularity),\u201d<\/a> he begins to show a slightly more melodic side of his guitar riffs and flashes a bit more solo work rather than chords. <em>Nasty, Brutish, and Short<\/em> encases a punky, colorful vintage sound. I recommend this album to any fan of classic or modern rock.
