First off, I’d like to mention that today, the final issue of Uptown magazine hits stands in Winnipeg. To mark this sad day, and celebrate the great work they’ve done supporting the music scene here in Winnipeg, former staff and contributors will be meeting at the King’s Head Pub tonight starting at 7pm. Drop by for a beer and celebrate the works these folks have done and mourn their passing. Over at the Pyramid, Deaner and his band Nightseeker are likely going to rip the tits off the joint. And over at the Times Change(d), two of Stylus’ favourite local acts, JohNNy SiZZle and the Magnificent 7s are holding the evening down. Time will tell. – SB

Saturday October 27

Coffee fiends have reason to celebrate this weekend, as Cafe Postale opens up in St. Boniface. To celebrate their grand opening, co-owners Adrienne Huard and Andre Clement are inviting everyone down to the new shop at 202 Provencher Boulevard. Featuring world-class machinery, experienced baristas, and counter tops and bar hand crafted out of sustainably harvested Elm trees by local artisans Wood Anchor, the cozy little spot is sure to become a popular destination.

Hillbilly Highway favourite Keri Latimer will be performing at the grand opening, along with other acoustic artists, and the artwork of Dominique Ray will be displayed on the walls. Bahamas, aka Afie Jurvanen, hit it big this year with his romantic folk-rock album Barchords, a catchy and woozy release that’s bound to get all caught up in your head with its soulful electric guitar sounds (don’t fight it).
