{"id":7000,"date":"2013-05-28T16:00:39","date_gmt":"2013-05-28T16:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/?p=7000"},"modified":"2013-05-28T16:00:39","modified_gmt":"2013-05-28T16:00:39","slug":"jonny-fritz-dad-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ckuw.ca\/stylus\/2013\/05\/28\/jonny-fritz-dad-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Jonny Fritz &#8211; Dad Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stylusmagazine.ca\/2013\/05\/28\/jonny-fritz-dad-country\/dad-country\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7001\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7001\" alt=\"DAD-COUNTRY\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stylusmagazine.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/DAD-COUNTRY-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b id=\"docs-internal-guid-43a7a7e9-ebd8-a82c-b709-9aeef1d4d1c6\"><br \/>\n<\/b>This latest LP from Nashville-based Jonny Fritz (formerly Corndawg) is sure to delight fans of well crafted country songs.<!--more--> Fritz\u2019s sharp wit and dark humour are prominent among 11 of the 12 tracks (the final cut is an instrumental), particularly the gut busting examinations of the grinding reality of touring for a living <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Y2_RIg0vZPQ\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cGoodbye Summer,\u201d<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/52416686\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cAin\u2019t It Your Birthday,\u201d<\/a> and the decidedly darker \u201cFever Dreams.\u201d Fritz also tackles the heartbreak of a crumbling relationship (\u201cShut Up\u201d and \u201cAll We Do Is Complain\u201d), sex as religious experience (\u201cHoly Water\u201d), and suicide (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=meoncdFAfFs\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cHave You Ever Wanted To Die?\u201d<\/a>). While Jonny\u2019s lyrics are front and centre, the arrangements throughout <em>Dad Country<\/em> are all strong and on point, a tasteful mix of classic Nashville and California country sounds. Jonny Fritz is a damn fine songwriter and a brilliant performer. With luck, <em>Dad Country<\/em> will be his introduction to a larger audience, and hopefully we\u2019ll see him make an appearance up our way sometime soon.
