The five song EP embodies the notion that less is more, with songs that are stripped down to just the folk\/bluegrass basics. In the folk ballad <a href=\"http:\/\/eaglelakeowls.bandcamp.com\/track\/the-northern-wind\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Northern Wind\u201d<\/a> Cole and Lemoine&#8217;s harmonies are at times breathtaking. While Eagle Lake Owls are quickly developing their own sound, it\u2019s the lyrics that really set them apart. Well-placed (and not overused) one-liners that are clever in the same vein as They Might Be Giants allow <a href=\"http:\/\/eaglelakeowls.bandcamp.com\/track\/animal-or-man-2\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cAnimal Or Man?\u201d<\/a> for example, to be taken literally or as metaphor. Or, as in <a href=\"http:\/\/eaglelakeowls.bandcamp.com\/track\/good-god-damn\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cGood God Damn,\u201d<\/a> emphasize the words of wisdom, \u201cthe things you learn ain\u2019t the things you know.\u201d And with five songs clocking in at just over 16 minutes, it\u2019s welcome respite from all the 15 song epics out there, and well worth repeated listens.
