But that song and this album are far from lullabyes\u2014they\u2019re a real gentle form of rock and roll. But other than tracks which sound like the Lonely Vulcans\u2019 patron saints, there\u2019s much more to get excited about on <em>Night Date<\/em> than that, like T.J. Blair\u2019s soulful wails on \u201cThe Lonely Vulcan\u201d and on \u201cHymn,\u201d or the group\u2019s London Calling-esque rockabilly on \u201cWestern.\u201d Guitarist\/ band founder Daniel Pangman has said that he\u2019s more inspired by movies than music, and he\u2019s interested in invoking imagery. In my mind, there\u2019s a handful of songs that evoke images of just laying back under an old Wild West sky sitting by a campfire, moving from one town to the next. All in all, it\u2019s an easygoing disc with some bite.
