Being a fan of the Vancouver based super group Sweatshop Union, it goes without saying that I must be a fan of former member Kyprios. His departure from Sweatshop seemed only to minutely alter the group’s sound. Eventually fans must have expected Kyprios to focus more on his solo endeavors since his presence on Sweatshop tracks was dominating. The EP finds him collaborating with a live band which gives the tracks a full sound that modern hip-hop is rarely capable of producing. The soul is evident on the album highlight and title track, as well as the dark and poignant “We Get Right.” The sunny track “City Women” shows a newer piece to the Kyprios puzzle while “Ain’t Gonna Get Me” is totally forgettable. “Bad Motherfucker” incorporates all the shittiest things about 90s rap with a horn section and elements of rock into a painful four minutes; possibly an interesting direction but a miss step this time round.
