The Weekend is here and it’s time to let loose! Check out these highlights, Winnipeg.

Looking to get weird and rage into the night alongside some ear-drum destroying punk rock mayhem? Hit up the Cavern on Friday. Winnipeg’s own Bring the Fight and the Pinkslips are headlining what is sure to be a sweaty, stinky time down in the bunker below the Toad. What am I pumped up about? I’m looking to see my pals The Uptucks, from Brandon, MB, for the first time. Word on the street is they are the worst kind of punk rock scum to emerge from the Wheat City since Yesterday’s Dream, and maybe even worse than that. Shotgun a beer in the alley and make sure to check this out, if that’s your bag. –SB
Catch Loose Nuke, the Uptucks, the Pinkslips, and Bring the Fight at the Cavern. Show starts at 10pm and only costs 5 bucks.

Now I understand staying out late on Sunday is not something that most do very often… but believe me when I say that showing up more tired than usual to work this Monday will be absolutely worth it. Why? Because America’s best live band (according to Spin Magazine and No Depression) Slim Cessna’s Auto Club is coming to town. They are a mixture of bluegrass, punk, folk, gothic, and whatever other genre title you want to put on it made up by at least seven instruments (including an upright bass. I know, cool right?). They are also one of many Americans that make reference to Winnipeg in one of their songs, “Americadio.” What makes this show even more exciting is that Winnipeg’s very own The Vibrating Beds will be opening. – SD
Do NOT miss Slim Cessna’s Auto Club with the Vibrating Beds this Sunday, July 29th at the West End Cultural Centre. Tickets are $15 in advance on Ticketmaster (plus convenience fees), at the West End Cultural Centre, Music Trader, and the Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $20.
