Whole lotta shakin’ this weekend!
Thursday, June 7
Come out to the Lo Pub and celebrate the release of the June/July edition of Stylus magazine! We’ll be handing out copies of the magazines fresh off the press for you (free as always) and signing up volunteers. But more to the point of this post, we’ll be featuring Woven Records recording artists J.R. Hill, Box of Wolves, and Pangaea DJs.
Cover is $5 at the door, and proceeds go to help keep Stylus a sustainable publication into the future. Bring your CKUW Friends Card for happy-hour prices on local tap.– Sheldon Birnie
Thursday, June 7 & Friday, June 8
The Bokononists have a pretty packed weekend keeping you, the amazing people of Winnipeg, entertained. Kick off the weekend tonight with some rockin’ tunes that will make you happy to no longer be a teenager (hence the album name, The Dangerously Empty Lives of Teenage Girls) at the Green Room! Opening up the night is DJ Miss Hightower, one of Winnipeg’s newest house DJ’s. The Bokononists continue their weekend on Friday at the Cavern with openers Nukem Knife. So take part in what the Bokononists are calling the “Double Boko Weekend” to hear some great music, at a great price, at a great place. (Also, it’s pronounced Bo-kon-on-ists. Don’t strain yourself!)
The Thursday show takes place at the Green Room at 108 Osborne Street. The show is free before 10:30 and $5 after and begins at 10. The Friday show is at the Cavern (112 Osborne Street). The doors for this show are at 9, show at 10:30. – Shanell Dupras
