Weekenders 09/06 – 09/09

Back to School Weekend kicks off with a blast. Check out what you just might be missing if you don’t get on this train now!

After several years of university, I feel confident in advising new students of only one thing: O-Week is about as fun as school gets all year, so take advantage of it while it’s here. Free pancake breakfasts, beer gardens, and awesome local bands ring in the school year and help to ease the pain of emptied bank accounts and pre-study jitters. Moreover, this year’s Friday Finale ‘Roll Call IV’ is going to be a fucking blast. Know why? 2 words: Das Racist. Oh mah goodness, I have no clue how this happened but this is going to be epic. Das Racist will be performing at the Pyramid with locals DJ Co-Op and DJ Hunnicutt.

DJ Co-Op: 01 one

DJ Hunnicutt: Slow Ride (I Got To The Party)

Doors open at 9, show is free for U of W students WITH STUDENT ID. Students should be sure to get there early, as Green Apple, Urban Bakery, and Music Trader have all sold out of tickets. Start the year off right before the books beat you senseless and check this out! -VK

Friday September 7, Saturday September 8 – THE WEBER BROTHERS

Well, Winnipeg folk fans are in for a treat this weekend, as we’re about to get two chances to see the Weber Brothers, in two great venues. On Friday night, the Weber Brothers – founded by brothers Ryan and Sam Weber, former disciples of Ronnie Hawkins – celebrate the Park Theatre’s 5th Anniversary Weekend (which also includes performances over the weekend from Romi Mayes & Jay Nowicki on Thursday, and Moses Mayes on Saturday).

On Saturday night, the Weber Brothers are performing at the Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club, a show that is sure to be packed, sweaty, and rocking. Hit both nights if you can. If not, make sure to attend at least one evening’s worth of top-notch talent on behalf of the brothers Weber.

Tickets for Friday night’s performance at the Park Theatre are $15, and available at the Park and Music Trader. The Times show will be tickets $15 at the door, so don’t delay in getting down there, as the place fills up fast. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya! -SB
