Holy Smokes! June is here already! Lots happening this first Weekend in June, folks.

Saturday, June 1 2013

After two very busy years of working their last album’s release, Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers are back with their new EP, Fruit and Ash, and want to have a party to celebrate! This is not only their CD release party, but also their return home! Flying Fox has just spent all spring doing a Western Canada tour, and need to be welcomed home in style. This is not something to miss: get a free copy of the 4-song EP with entry and hear the fantastic sounds of Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers, as well as openers The Lazy Mks.

Head over to the Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club (234 Main St.) for the Fruit and Ash CD release party! $15 at the door gets you live music, as well as a copy of the new EP. Doors open at 9, show starts at 10. -SD

Hit the road, Jack and Jill!

It’s worth the trip to Steinbach, because it’s on the way to Hotel La Broquerie, host to Bluesfest, an all-day, all-night, all-star event that could legitimately be called La Broquerie gets High and Lonesome given the lineup:  Romi Mayes (remember, “she’s moving to Victoria after Labour Day”); guitar whiz Brent Parkin, who doesn’t play that often; blues-roots-rockers The Perpetrators; one of the finest axe men anywhere, Chris Carmichael;  JP LePage a fixture on the scene since the early 80s; Times Change(d) regulars Righteous Ike, The Detonators, and The Jakebrakes; and homeboy Quinton Blair.

The show starts at 2pm and ends at closing time, Saturday, June 1st at Hotel La Broquerie, 3 Rue des Pignons; just under an hour’s drive from Peg City, 7 clicks east of Steinbach. -BT
