Post Rainbow Trout

troutttttt

by Selci

It was my first Rainbow trout and it was a hell of a time. I had the chance to catch up with some of Winnipeg’s favourite artists, musicians, artisans and foodies. It is clear that Rainbow Trout is a conglomeration of some truly beautiful and talented people. The Roseau river was ideal and made the festival grounds especially comforting in the sweltering heat.

Friday

Friday night was rad. The dance party in the after party tent with Pastoralia bringing the vibes was the perfect closer to the evening. Everyone was stoked on the beginning of the festivities. So much so that there was double dutch jump rope going strong in the middle of the dance floor. I asked a few people their favourite act of the night and it was Atlaas.

Saturday

After a night of sleeping on the warm ground I was feeling vital for a day of short and sweet conversation with a bunch of talented people. The day was extremely hot but my friends and I tied four floaties together and went for many epic floats down the river. By nightfall a solar storm came through accompanied by the most epic northern lights anyone had ever seen to close the show. You had to see it to believe it.

I spoke to some vendors at the artists village:

Natalie from Edible Alchemy Collaboratory

Stylus : What are we offering here today?

Natalie: Well we have some printed items like zines, recipe postcards and patches, and then we have homemade candy and cat ears. The candies are herbal candies, so we have herb nerds which are dehydrated water kefir grains with different kinds of flower petals, beet powder and citric acid to make them sour. Tulsi and rose turkish delight, old fashioned fennel and mint candies. They are like Flinstone vitamins but if your hippy dippy grandmother made them for you.

Jesse and Max from Jesse and Max Franks

Stylus: What’s the dog of the day?

Jesse/Max: It’s a doggy dog world. The dog days have just begun.

Stylus: What is your music choice of the day?

J: Real love guys band, Living hour. I always love seeing them but they were especially good today.

Mischa Pustogorodsky

Stylus: Highlight of your day so far?

Mischa:  Being here, talking with you. Seeing everyone I haven’t seen for awhile.

Stylus: Do you have any rainbow trout river side dreams?

M: To be loved, to love everybody and to have everyone that I love, love each other!

Chloe and Andrew from Synonym Art Consultation

Stylus: What is up?

Chloe: One answer, chillin. We are right in front of our post office which is the first time we’ve done it. We actually have folks making fan mail for the bands which is amazing, so heartwarming. Everyone is just chilling under the tent. We’ve got some playboy magazines, some pens. There is some pretty serious collaging happening. Turns out, people love postcards. So I am really excited to give them to bands and were also mailing some off.

Sunday

After a late night of solar storms, surfer dance parties, skinny dipping and silver onesies it was time to relax. There was Deer and Almond breakfast for all and many were looking fine fashioning Coco’s Frosting Shack necklaces. The weather cooled off and we were able to melt our hearts in a less sweaty fashion to the likes of Rayannah accompanied by Jocelyn Gould and The Madtrappers featuring my love Richard Innman. Can’t wait for next year.
