Energy was the theme of the night on Thursday, January 26 – both the respective energies of the bands themselves and the overall dynamic flow of the evening. Amping up for the second weekend of Real Love’s Winterruption, the Good Will was taken over by Bedtime, an up-and-coming dream pop duo, the thoroughly-beloved Virgo Rising, and New Brunswick’s very own “deep-thinkin’ rippers,” Motherhood. What appeared at first to be a somewhat bizarre (albeit fascinating) lineup proved to be a show for the ages.

Jasmyn sings into the mic

by Rish Hanco

Folks trickle into the Goodwill on a Saturday night to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the local shop Chip’s Vintage. The love and community-feeling is palpable, making it easy to forget the bitter cold outside. DJs Co-op and Hunnicutt hone in on the feeling and bring it to the fore, spinning jams to move the crowd and permeating the spaces between bands with warmth and energy.

Concert Review :: Circuitous album release. Feat Blessed, Stuck, Fold Paper

Blessed performing at the Good Will on Nov. 17, 2022

by Myles Tiessen

As the icy Winter wind whipped down Portage Avenue on November 17, a crowd of eager, cigarette-inhaling, primarily 20-somethings packed into the back of the Good Will Social Club for a night of post-punk brilliance.

Headliners Blessed–who had recently released their outstanding and anomalous new album Circuitous–were joined by underrated scene legends Stuck and Winnipeg newcomer Fold Paper for a night of effects-laden angular guitar rock that shook the entire building with unrelenting determination.

Another successful Real Love Thursday was executed on April 5th, when Adam Fuhr and The Pinc Lincolns performed alongside the one man ambiance ensemble Holy Hum. The music was housed at the Handsome Daughter. Even before the show, the mise en scéne onstage gave a cozy thawing feeling on this slightly below 0 evening. Festival Review: Up + Downtown 2015 in Edmonton, AB

Considering the length of the drive, we made pretty good time and got into Edmonton early Thursday evening. After sorting out our accommodations, half our gang sought shut-eye while the rest of us headed to the Empress Ale House for a little hey-how-are-ya. Friday was a bit of running around, highlighted by a surprise invitation from the venerable CJSR to spend a couple of hours on-air. Then it was time to get down to what was planned as a very busy weekend. As stated in the Stylus festival preview, we had our collective sights on kicking it off with a punk show presented by Solidarity Rock at Brixx.
