The Ripperz – You are the Moon

The sophomore release from these local dudes has been long awaited and anticipated. For anyone who has had the honour of seeing this band live they know what a hell of a show The Ripperz can put on. Their second release differs slightly from their debut in the variety of songs and the intesity. You are the Moon literally has everything on it, from punk screams and country stomps to folk infused ballads, although overall the album is not as intense as their debut, certain sections find the band at their loudest and heaviest. This could be the one drawback from the album as it could be argued that there is a lack of flow between songs, this does not seem to be the case though. What does result is not a dull moment on the entire disc, you do not know what is coming up next but all the songs have just enough in common that the next song is more exciting than the last. “Tonight pt. II” opens with the ferocious catchy riffs the band consistently pumps out and “A Good Life” continues along this track. I could describe every song in detail but this review would be far to lengthy. Album highlights are in the last minute and a half of “Arena.” The group sung stomp of “Don’t Let Me Fall” and the rise and fall ride of “Dancing on the Weekend.” The heavy eruption in “Moon and Stars” will no doubt translate beautifully into their epic live show.
