Animal Parts – Six Arms to Hold You

I don’t know if I dropped it too many times or spun it a little too frequently, but my copy of Animal Parts’ Six Arms to Hold You With now skips (and it’s a bummer). The third album in a short string of recent releases from this band, it’s a collection of six songs about love, loss, and growing into your own. The tracks on this release are catchy and pretty and sound a bit like Wilco, all in a good way. You’ll probably sing along to them in the car once you listen a couple times through, and you’ll probably play a little air guitar to opening tune, “Where the Heart Is.” And MOST LIKELY you’ll whistle along with lead singer Joshua Cockerill on “Are You Man?” Other Canadian alt-folk rockers Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), Doug Paisley and Justin Rutledge all make appearances on this album. I figure you’re gonna like this album if you enjoy good whiskey, Christmas lights on a front porch in June, and the sweet sweet sounds of electric and acoustic guitars paired together, resulting in balanced unity. This album’s got that nice sticky folk-rock glue that keeps things together and it bends through notes of romance, mellow melodies and rockin’ jams. I’m diggin’ it.
