Wake Owl release their new album The Private World Of Paradise on March 4 on Rezolute Records. The very next day, they will perform at the West End Cultural Centre with Toronto act Lyon kicking off the night. Tickets are $15 in advanced and $18 at the door. Here is a little chat with singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron about recording and life on the road.
Stylus: When working on The Private World Of Paradise, what bands were you listening to?
Colyn Cameron: Our own demos. Kendrick Lamar.
Stylus: You are embarking on an impressively busy tour, do you have any pre or post show rituals?
CC: Burn palo santo incense as often as we can in the van and venue. Drink bourbon. Skateboard
Stylus: What is your favourite piece of musical equipment that you use?
CC: A Moog realistic Concertmate synth designed in the 70s for RadioShack to sell to home consumers.
Stylus: What do you think is the best music festival in Canada?
CC: Vancouver Folk Festival
Stylus: How important are college radio stations for bands?
CC: I think there super important but it depends how advanced in your field you are trying to become. College radio doesn’t put you in stadiums , but then again, I hope I never have to play in one of those.
