Original review of How to Clean Everything by assistant editor Elizabeth Bridge, from Stylus, vol 5. no. 1, September 1993. The issue also included reviews of Malefaction’s Bruised, Grand Theft Canoe’s Bolivia + Argentina = Paraguay, and NomeansNo’s Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? as well as features on Eric’s Trip, Pond, and the Ramones.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of How To Clean Everything, Fat Wreck Chords is reissuing the “seminal” punk LP from Winnipeg’s Propagandhi on August 20th. The reissue includes all the original tracks, remastered, as well as three tracks cut from the album by Fat Mike, and a “long lost” four song demo. Also available, as a bundle or on its own, is a complete guitar and bass tablature book, compiled by Propagandhi’s Chris Hannah himself. As pre-orders of the reissue are (ostensibly) rolling off the shelves, Stylus sat down with Hannah over local beverages at Cousin’s on a hot July day to discuss the ins and outs of reissuing a piece of work you’d rather forget existed, and what’s up on the Propagandhi front moving forward. Stylus checks out Sir Paul McCartney

In putting this piece forward, I have to acknowledge a fundamental bias in my writing a review for a Paul McCartney show; I’m a Beatles fanatic. I grew up listening to the Fab Four (though I didn’t actually listen to Sgt. Pepper side to side until five years ago) through  drives from end to end of the Canadian prairie. In grade five, I fell asleep every night listening to Abbey Road on a CD with only one track for the entire album and no way to change which song I was listening to. As often as I would fall asleep to the gentle and soothing tones of “Something,” I did make the consistent effort to listen until the medley of broken songs at the end, which more often than not proves to the be the enduring legacy of Paul McCartney’s musical career.

Deer Tick, the pride of Providence, Rhode Island, just announced a new album to hit the streets this fall. The band will also be hitting the Highway in support of Negativity, their aptly titled fifth studio full length. This tour includes a stop in Winnipeg on October 16 at the West End. Shred Kelly‘s unique brand of foot-stompin’, banjo driven roots boogie has been getting crowds up and off their feet for years now.
