Feist kicks off the festival by rocking out pretty damn late into the night!

By Andrew Mazurak

Well well well.. another year and another blistering hot weekend+ at Birds Hill Park for the 39th annual Winnipeg Folk Fest. A lethal consumption of alcohol was consumed, glorious costumes became tattered strips of nothing, and Stylus was there to slam ’em back, crash, puke, dance, interview, force food into guts, force coffee into brain, buy many and many dollar watermelon slices, wander through the trees in the dark, hug the shrug guy and shrug at the hug guy with the rest of you. I for one had a great time documenting what bands I could and hereeeee weee gooo:

FEIST

Last year fav’s Mountain Man make a return appearance due to accompanying Feist on her most recent tours.

BILLY BRAGG

Billy Bragg letting the crowd know what’s what Thursday evening.

OZOMATLI

Ozomatli was absolutely exhausting to watch. Fun stuff.

K’NAAN

K’NAAN makes his first return to Winnipeg since his controversial appearance at the Walker back whenever that was. After this performance I think seems to be forgiven on both sides.

ELLIOTT BROOD

Elliott Brood had their way with the Festival’s side stages and got the crowd a movin’ Saturday evening!

BLITZEN TRAPPER

Portland’s Blitzen Trapper returning to Winnipeg sticking to their Big Blue solo showww.

THE HEAD AND THE HEART

The Head and the Heart seemed to be one of the most talked about groups after their busy weekend covering most stages.

DEvOTCHKA

DeVotchka takes main stage Saturday night to perform a very tight set to many die-hard fans mouthing every lyric to every song.

SIDI TOURÉ

Sidi Touré with David Bromberg at Bur Oak stage on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

IRON & WINE

Sam Beam was gifted a pair of shades by a lovely young Folkie as he joked about the lack of underwear being thrown on stage at Iron & Wine shows. Surprisingly there was no barrage of underwear thrown on stage after this comment.. probably due to the unsurprising lack of underwear worn all weekend.

Thanks to the peeps at Winnipeg Folk Fest for their hard work on yet another successful festival!
