Lots of heavy and heady stuff going down this Weekend, friends! Don’t miss out.
Friday August 31
Ninjacat Productions, a show-booking agency in Winnipeg, has been supplying the city with plenty of heavy metal shows (such as Obituary, Septic Flesh, and Napalm Death) for the past couple of years. Shows that would most likely not exist without them. And to make sure that Ninjacat keeps coming up with kickass shows for Winnipeg headbangers to enjoy, a group of said headbangers is throwing a fundraiser show this weekend! The line up is entirely local, featuring Alphakilll, Hoarfrost, Laika, White Trash Heavy Metal, and Pentapuss.
The show is this Friday, August 31st at The Zoo (160 Osborne Street) with the doors opening at 9 pm. Tickets are available in advance for $10 at Hungover Empire (with 10% off in store), Ticketquest.ca, and Ticketworkshop.com, or at the door for $12. Be sure to come out and help support Winnipeg’s metal scene! For more information, check out their Facebook event page. – SD
Also on Friday, August 31st, Ottawa’s Become the Sun will be playing Shannon’s Irish Pub with Stone Throw Second. The band is the final leg of a cross Canada tour. Check out their song “The Flow of Life” from their debut album, Water. Become the Sun – The Flow of Life
Show starts at 10pm. Tickets available at the door. -DP
Saturday September 1
On Saturday, Winnipeg is visited by two of Saskatoon’s psych heavies, Powder Blue and Shooting Guns. The gig was supposed to go down at the beloved Lo Pub, but we all know what happened there (RIP). So now the setting has shifted to Negative Space, and the action begins at 9pm. Featuring opening sets by local mind melters Electric Candles and The Hoots, this show is sure to set your face on fire, punch a hole in the sky, and leave you wet and shaking in a the hole that is left of your ego by the end of the night. Let’s get weird!
Head down to Negative Space, 253 Princess, for 9pm Saturday. Admission is $10. Bring your own spacesuit. -SB
