  • Happy 15th Birthday CKUW FM!

Posted by Rob on April 29th, 2014

April 30, 1999 CKUW launched as an FM broadcaster. We are very proud of our half century of history on-campus but the last fifteen years of radio have defined our station as a true community broadcaster.

Thank you to everyone who helped us make the leap to city-wide FM, all those who have listened and especially each individual who has contributed financial support to Fundrive.

Our present to you is an amazing new format of AD-FREE RADIO, rolling out formally over the next few weeks. We are also proud to re-release our CD compilations from 2004 & 2009 now digitally optimized and available on Bandcamp. Enjoy!

Stylus magazine was founded in 1989 and turns 25 this fall! Stylus features the program guide for CKUW along with great coverage of music with local artists taking priority.

In celebration of this anniversary we are re-issuing classic Winnipeg cassette tapes for the digital times. One vintage re-issue will hit the stands again alongside our new issue every two months. On the cover of the re-issued mag you will find a sticker with download info for the Time Tunnel Tape release featured. You can then also join the conversation and share your memories with us online.

This issues tape is 94’s ‘Pervert Teenberger’ from JohNNy SiZZle aka Martin Howell. You can hear Martin on air every Sunday at midnight for Winnipeg Arena Is on Fire
