  • Pass the Big Wide Mic, Robin!

Posted by Robin on November 9th, 2008

Okay! This Tuesday, Hit the Big Wide Strum! will feature Sandra Taylor, editor of the Manitoba Oldtyme & Bluegrass Society’s newsletter, The Dill Pickle Rag, as guest co-host for the first hour. Sandra will be bringing in a handful of her favourite tunes to share with us all. Then in the second hour of the show, it’s the Crooked Brothers – live in the studio! Their songs exhibit a sense of humour and a fascination with the past. They sing dark stories of death sweetened with three-part harmonies, wed traditional country instrumentation with a kazoo, multicultural rhythms, the blues and just about anything that will rattle – the Crooked Brothers create new and irresistible sounds. Tune for the whole hootenany!

  • Help CKUW Celebrate 10 Years FM

Posted by Robin on November 3rd, 2008

CKUW went on-the-air Winnipeg-wide in May 1999 and to commemorate we are collecting copies of old shows, memories and pictures – anything really that helps personify CKUW’s illustrious history both pre and post FM. It’s time to excavate your basement, and share those forgotten memories and that random CKUW paraphernalia you’ve kept!

Perhaps you (and your co-host(s)) are interested in returning to air for a special one-off come-back show in 2009 as well. We’re looking at some special ways to commemorate on-air, too!

Contact us at 204-786-9782 if you have anything to contribute. We very much appreciate your assistance.
