It’s our 8th birthday!
CKUW began at midnight April 30, 1999. Our first song was ‘Thats Entertainment’ by The Jam.
A huge thank you to our volunteers, staff and you the dedicated listeners. We can’t do this without you, so here’s to another year of great FM radio!
From approximately noon-3pm today, Wednesday, April 25, 2007 the power will be shut off in the building that houses our transmitter. In the event CKUW is off air during this period of time, you can still tune in via the internet as we will continue to broadcast as scheduled. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Today’s programs will also be available for download.
Wednesday, April 25: Our old pal Oh Susanna is coming to town soon and tonight we talk to her live and preview her soon to be released new album “Short Stories”. Also, your last chance to register to win 2 pairs of full-weekend passes to this year’s sold-out Dauphin’s Countryfest!
Wednesday, May 2: Tonight we give away those 2 pairs of passes to Dauphin’s Countryfest and we are joined by Countryfest’s entertainment guru, Neil Peterson to preview the alt-side of this year’s line-up.
Wednesday, May 9: It’s the night before Oh Susanna’s intimate album release gig at Times Change(d) High & Lonesome Club and we celebrate by going back in our trusty Wayback Machine to an equally intimate Oh Susanna gig – Saturday, March 3, 2001. Live at the late, lamented Ms. Purdy’s, Suzie played a CKUW sponsored 2-show evening and we’ll listen to an exclusive recording of the best of that night.
And on one of those nights we just might hear from another ol’ pal with a new album – Jim Bryson, who is in town backing up Kathleen Edwards on the 26th and opening up on his own (for Jill Barber) at the WECC on May 3rd.
