  • Seasons Greetings!

Posted by Rob on December 21st, 2012

The staff at CKUW wish you the best this season! Our office (and the University) is closed from December 21st – January 2nd inclusive. Being live & local is important to us so programming continues as normal throughout the holiday. The office reopens on January 3rd for prize pickup and general inquiries.

The new year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of CKUW (as CJUC) by student David Shilliday in 1963. We will be celebrating with special events including the National Campus/Community Radio Conference in June.

Thank you for listening and for your support throughout 2012!

You’re viewing the new version of our website, redesigned for what folks call ‘cross platform compatibility’. In a nutshell, it should look good no matter what device or screen you browse on. We’d love your feedback and any bug reports – [email protected] – Enjoy!

  • Recent Program Changes

Posted by Robin on December 10th, 2012

Here’s a quick guide to what’s new on the air.

What’s the Story, Morning Glory? will wake you up on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6-8am unless you sleep ‘til noon on Mondays in which case you’ll be listening to Static on the Prairies, a new show that features indie bands.

We were afraid that Boots & Saddle was ridin’ into the sunset, but Ol’ Tim from Rockin’ Chair AM fame is going to host the country western show from now on. That leaves Wednesday morning open for a unique new program idea. Starting Tuesday, December 11, In Ska We Trust kicks off from 6-7pm with a live band for the first show.

Chiptune show, Printed Circuit, is on hiatus but we’re happy to have Jake & Gololcha back on air filling in on Wednesdays 10pm-midnight.

For the news savvy listener, the Global Research News Hour is our latest spoken word show addition and can be heard Thursday 10-11am.

Don’t miss hearing Cornelius Crocodile now that Destroy All Music has moved to Fridays 6-7pm. Keeping you company through the overnight and beyond is Manitoba Moon.

Finally, the hip hop show you’ve been listening to from 6-8pm on Saturdays has name. It’s called We Build Hits.

Turn up your radio to enjoy it all.
