  • Music news you might have missed this year

Posted by Rob on December 17th, 2006

UK graffiti assassin Banksy and Danger Mouse scared the hell out of hundreds of UK moms and further tarnished the innocence of teenage girls by planting doctored copies of Paris Hilton’s CD with the sleazy socialite’s top falling off, a dog’s head photoshopped onto her body, and reworked song titles like “Why Am I Famous?” and “What Am I For?” in shops across the UK. Hilton retaliated by filming herself having dispassionate sex and subjecting the entire internet to the results. CBGBs moved to Las Vegas despite a valiant effort by Patti Smith, Bad Brains and Blondie to save the embattled club. Speaking of fossils the Stooges announced plans to record a new album with bassist Mike Watt replacing the late David Alexander. Filmstar heartthrob Scarlett Johansson announced to plans to record an album of Tom Waits covers. Someone stop her. And finally Montreal resident Warren Hill scored a one-of-a-kind Velvet Underground acetate at a street sale for $0.75 and sold it on eBay for $155,401.00. Bastard!

  • One Mans Jazz Christmas Special

Posted by Rob on December 16th, 2006

Moe has a tradition of presenting a special program around the holidays on the show closest to Christmas. It’s usually something a little different and unusual. Last year, it was Anthony Brown’s Asian American Orchestra with some unique interpretations of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and the year before it was Joel Harrison’s So Long 2nd Street, a far out take on Americana tunes.

So what will be the Christmas “choice” this year? Tune into One Man’s
Jazz on Dec. 23 to find out.
